Day 1
Meeting the Moken people
Board a speedboat from Kuraburi harbor for an hour-long trip to Surin Islands National Park. Your adventure begins with a snorkeling session off the two islands, immediately immersing you in the region’s captivating underwater life.
Your journey will then take you to the island inhabited by the Moken, a people of maritime nomads from Southeast Asia who found refuge on the Surin Islands after the 2004 tsunami. Deeply rooted in animism, they depended mainly on fishing and natural resources for their livelihood. Aboard their boats called kabongs, the Mokens sailed the Andaman Sea for most of the year. During the monsoon season, families would set up temporary villages on beaches as needed. Since the tsunami, the Moken village of Surin has become permanent, marking a shift to a semi-nomadic or sedentary lifestyle. Explore this fascinating history with our English-speaking guide, discover their unique way of life and meet their endearing children.
After a morning rich in discoveries, treat yourself to a lunch break and enjoy some free time to explore the surroundings, swim in the crystal-clear waters or resume snorkeling to admire the coral reefs. Settle in for the night and enjoy the peace and serenity of the place as the sun sets. Settle in for the night and enjoy the peace and serenity as the sun sets (lunch + dinner in a local restaurant).
Day 2
Exploring the seabed
Early risers can enjoy the colors of the sunrise over the sea from the deserted beach. Afterwards, you’ll board a traditional local boat and go snorkeling to discover the marine biodiversity of these unspoiled waters. The 100 meters separating the two islands are home to exceptional coral reefs, making this area one of the best snorkeling spots in Thailand. Overnight stay.
